Muse - Emiliana Torrini

Muse - "Showbiz" (NAIVE)

Muse, a young Devon-based trio, impress with their maturity. The charismatic Matthew Bellamy, Muse's only composer, is a future star and his handsome face will soon adorn a graet many magazines. However, Muse's unavoidable breakthrough will come from their huge musical talent and their powerful and sensual music, an explosive summary of Britain's best guitar-rock of the decade. Vying with Nirvana's energy, Jeff Buckley's raw poetry and, of course, the dark melancholy of Radiohead, their obvious influence, "Uno" and "Cave" will surely be hummed all over the world and are the forerunners of their own "OK computer". But don't wait, go and buy this wonderful "Showbiz", the first step of a brilliant career.

Emiliana Torrini - "Love in the time of science" (One Litlle Indian)

Forget about the sad blue eyes the pretty Emiliana Torrini has on all pictures, forget about melancholy titles such as "Dead things" and let your mind drift on these songs about seas, oceans, strange animals and bizarre ideas, this weird world that exists solely in your imagination and that Torrini has recorded for this first internationally-released album produced by Roland Orzabal (ex-Tears for Fears). Please, don't think of her as just another "Icelandic weirdo", a clone of Björk and Gus Gus (she sang on two of their debut album's tracks), despite the similarity between her voice and the former's (probably due to this typical accent). Although her cheerful and enthusiastic nature doesn't always expresses itself fully in these lyrics about weather-beaten shores, angry skies and muffled children cries, her personal universe has a definite charm and her voice has the purity of a wild, untamed bird, looking at the world with wide eyes. Love in the time of science is still love and science without conscience is soulless. Be free...
