Floria Sigismondi - Roy Stuart

"Redemption", Floria Sigismondi, R. Klanten editions, Germany, 1999

Already featured in the collective book "Surreality/Localizer 1.2", by the same publisher, Floria Sigismondi is a unique photographer, as fascinated by surrealism, freaks and the bizarre as by rock'n'roll. This collection of more than 150 pictures portrays Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Filter, Barry Adamson, Tricky and Crystal Method (sometimes taken from the videos she directed for them), as well as Gail Ann Dorsey and others, less famous, in promo shots, record sleeves and portraits, mixed with more personal work, self portraits and disturbing photos with a nightmarish and cruel quality, halfway between Eraserhead and Joel-Peter Witkin, another specialist of bodily deviances, which attract like a magnet or mesmerize like a razor's blade. Floria Sigismondi may be an image goddess, "Redemption" is far from being a via dolorosa.
